Beovu Lawyer

Losing your once-impeccable vision can be demoralizing and frightening. Aging can corrupt our senses, but eye stress or medications may also result in sight degradation. People will go to great lengths to salvage or recover their vision. Healthcare providers may prescribe some medications, like Beovu, to treat vision issues. But, instead of improving eyesight, many people report developing additional vision problems due to Beovu.

Our law firm is currently handling lawsuits on behalf of individuals diagnosed with vision injuries after taking Beovu.

What is Beovu?

Beovu, or brolucizumab-dbll, is a medicine that treats neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Wet AMD is a chronic eye disorder in which abnormal blood vessels leak fluid into the macula. The macula is part of the retina and is responsible for our central vision. This leakage causes blind spots or blurred vision. Doctors inject Beovu into the eye to stop the production of abnormal blood vessels that can cause wet AMD. Doctors have administered over 46,000 Beovu injections since the FDA approved the medication in 2019.

Beovu Related Injuries

Novartis, the manufacturer of Beovu, initially listed blurred vision, cataracts, eye hemorrhage, and inflammation as possible side effects. But, in 2020, the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS) warned of several other side effects. The ASRS reported 14 cases of retinal inflammation (vasculitis) in Beovu patients. 11 of which were occlusive retinal vasculitis, which can cause blindness. In a month, there were 25 cases of retinal vasculitis and 21 cases of occlusive retinal vasculitis. Taking Beovu may cause:

  • Blindness
  • Occlusive retinal vasculitis
  • Retina artery occlusion
  • Retinal vasculitis
  • Vision loss

Beovu Lawsuits

Despite the reports of adverse health effects, neither the FDA nor Novartis have recalled Beovu. But, in June 2020, the FDA approved changes to the Beovu label. Novartis added the risk of retinal vasculitis and occlusive retinal vasculitis to the Beovu label. However, this black box warning came too late, as many people received Beovu injections without understanding the full extent of the drug’s potential dangers.

Our firm expects many Beovu lawsuits, given the number of people who received Beovu injections before Novartis updated its labeling.

Do I Qualify for a Beovu Lawsuit?

If you suffered vision problems like occlusive retinal vasculitis or retinal vasculitis after receiving Bevou injections, you may qualify for a Beovu lawsuit. A Beovu lawsuit may help you recover compensation for:

  • Past and future medical expenses;
  • Past and future pain and suffering;
  • Loss of wages; and
  • Other economic losses related to your injury

Novartis failed to warn patients in time of all the risks associated with Beovu injections. The manufacturer should have conducted extensive research to identify all the potential side effects of Beovu before distributing it. Many people developed worsening vision problems due to the company’s negligence.
