Water Bead Kits Recalled After Infant Death

Water Bead Kits Recalled After Infant Death

A new recall has surfaced over a children’s product that may cause severe injury and even death. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted a recall notice for the Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kits on September 14, 2023. Although Target stopped selling these water bead kits in November 2022, what makes this situation so urgent is that one infant lost their life and another child suffered serious injuries after swallowing one of these beads.

CPSC Announces Chuckle & Roar Water Beads Activity Kit Recall

The CPSC has taken swift action in response to the Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kits’ safety concerns.

The primary concern addressed in this recall notice is the significant risk posed by ingesting these water beads. When a child swallows one of these tiny beads, they can expand in size. This expansion leads to a potentially life-threatening condition known as intestinal obstruction. This occurs when the bead blocks the child’s digestive tract, causing severe discomfort and, in some cases, even endangering their life.

The recall involves about 52,000 Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kits sold in a purple box with UPC Number 079346627035 on the back. The kits were sold at Target stores and online at Target.com from March 2022 through November 2022.

One Death and Injury Connected to Recalled Water Bead Kits

The CPSC is aware of two incidents involving the Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads. One case involves a 10-month-old infant in Wisconsin. The child tragically died after swallowing one of these recalled water beads in July 2023.

In November 2022, a 9-month-old child suffered intestinal obstruction after ingesting the beads.
